GFOAz Training: Annual Budget Forum

GFOAz is pleased to present its ever-popular annual budget forum on Friday, October 22 at the Zions Bank in Phoenix.

The annual budget forum is an opportunity to learn budgeting best practices and the latest developments in city/town budgeting.

Presentations for the day will include an economic forecast, budget boot camp and a panel on simplifying the budget process. An expert from GFOA will also discuss developing budget documents and applying for the GFOA Distinguished Budget Awards. Read more

Interested in Volunteering on the GFOAz Scholarship Committee?

GFOAz has created a new student internship program that will launch this fall. The internship will provide a student the opportunity to have a three-month work experience at an eligible city, town or county. GFOAz will provide the stipend for the internship. Details on the internship and how to get involved will be sent to active GFOAz members. The newly-formed committee is looking for one or two volunteers to assist in student interviews this winter. If you are interested, please e-mail aprice@alzeague.org by October 9.

Review of the Advanced Government Finance Institute - Madison, Wisconsin

Thank you for the opportunity to go to the AGFI training in Madison, Wisconsin. Without the scholarship for the training I doubt that I would have been able to go. The Madison college campus was beautiful and being on the lake inspired everyone to enjoy the surrounding area by touring and spending time outside when possible. The training and the connections with other finance officers was a wonderful experience. The AGFI 2015 class has decided to stay connected by creating LinkedIn and Facebook groups. The training was both entertaining and enlightening and I know I will use the skills and communication strategies that I learned from the wonderful instructors. Read more

GASB Survey of Financial Statement Preparers

The Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB) has invited members of GFOAz to participate in an important survey regarding the activities that you engage in when preparing and publishing your audited annual financial reports in conformity with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP). The information collected will be highly valuable to the GASB in evaluating the costs and benefits associated with conforming to GAAP and the effect on the timeliness of issuing GAAP financial reports. This will be particularly important as the GASB reviews the standards related to the financial reporting model, including Statement 34. Read more

Women in Public Finance Mountain Region Chapter

The mission of the Mountain Region Chapter of Women in Public Finance is to strengthen the current and future generation of women in the public finance industry, to create women leaders within the public finance industry and within our communities, to create a forum in which to interact with other public finance professionals, to foster education and exchange of ideas and information in the industry, and to raise awareness of the industry throughout the region.
